The Real Secret of Attraction: The Law of Repulsion!

There is a lot of talk about the law of attraction, recently. Despite current hype, this concept is no secret. The real secret is how to use it properly.

Let me get right to the point:

A lot of what is out there concerning the law of attraction is bullshit!

Here are a few examples:

  • Feel Good!: Feeling good is great… but like everything else, it has its place. Feeling good can lead to laziness. Drinking beer, eating pizza, and watching tv feels great (enjoy in moderation)… but it isn’t terribly productive. A personal example: I had a job a few years back. I was working the night shift in a residential treatment facility. It was about a 10 hour shift that required about 4 hours of work (usually). The rest of the time, I just hung out and practiced karate, read books, or listened to cds. I was learning about things I find really interesting, and reading tons of books (I love to read). I was earning around $13 an hour, and I was working 1 or 2 extra shifts a week to keep the bills paid. I loved it!!!! If the facility hadn’t closed down, I would probably still be there. I felt great, but the job wasn’t good for me, and it wasn’t getting me where I wanted to go.
  • Visualize only what you want!: Most of the time we realize what we want only after we experience what we don’t want. No one knew they hated brussel sprouts until after they tried brussel sprouts (with apologies to my father and any other nuts out there who enjoy brussel sprouts). If you have never been poor, then you have no idea how much it sucks! Knowing what you don’t want provides clarity, and is a necessary part of setting goals. A second challenge of visualization is that it isn’t enough by itself. You have to have an action plan. Visualizing what you want and then acting on it has effects on your subconscious mind as well as some non-local effects (more on both of these in the future).
  • Feeling bad is bad!: Feeling bad can occasionally be the best thing for you. Shitty feelings can be the best thing to propel you toward what you want. If you are not happy with some aspect of your life (or more likely, several), and feel like shit, when you reach a certain point of anger or frustration, you will say “enough is enough” or “to Hell with this”… and that is the point where you will take action and refuse to be stopped. This is a powerful place that is seldom (if ever) reached by good feelings or visualization alone.

Attraction can be powerful, but it is often repulsion that leads us to the discovery of what we want, and gives us the drive to achieve it…

I encourage you to absorb what is useful from anything that you study (credit to Bruce Lee). All the techniques (that I have seen) associated with the law of attraction have their place. The real secret is to make use of everything where it useful, study your results, re-adjust your methods and continue to work your action plan as you walk the path to achieve your dreams.
