Playing with Breath: The Breath of Fire…

The breath of fire is a powerful Yoga/pranayama technique.

It can be done as a part of a larger meditation process, or as a separate solo exercise.

With it you can quickly:

  • break and change your state (turn off the fight or flight response)
  • energize your body (feel deeply awake and alive)
  • begin the process of neurological transformation (for new learning and/or greater clarity)

When you practice this technique regularly, it can help you change or create virtually anything in your life!

Here’s the process:

  1. Find a comfortable, upright seated position
  2. start slowly
  3. breath in and out through the nose
  4. feel your lower belly push out when you inhale
  5. feel your lower belly pull in when you exhale
  6. begin to quicken the pace
  7. as you get comfortable, make the pace of breath faster and faster

As you get better, you can go longer and longer, but 30 seconds to a minute will be plenty to start.

I’ll be doing a video on this soon, to better explain the technique.

In order to keep a positive reference for the experience, it is useful to smile as much as possible during the technique… have fun with the breath of fire!

keep smiling,

ben
