Meditation & Mysticism – Keep Going, Keep Playing…

by Benjamin on November 16, 2008

As we go through life… there are many valuable skill-sets to develop.

You can’t stop learning… you will continue to learn something for the rest of your life… so it becomes important to direct that learning.

As you decide upon the skill-sets, attitudes, beliefs, etc. that you would like to develop… and begin to practice regularly… it is also important to remember that mastery comes from continually returning to the studies and drills.  Great experts continually practice the basics in their field… no matter how good they get.

These concepts have been expressed in different ways throughout history.

I’m sure many are already familiar with Steven Covey (author of The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People).

In one of his other books, Living the 7 Habits, Covey explains:

Habit 7:  Sharpen the Saw

Sharpening the saw is about constantly renewing ourselves… It’s the habit that increases our capacity to live all other habits of effectiveness.

Continually looking to take your skills to the next level is rewarding on many levels:

  • Your skills develop further/You get better.
  • You inspire others.
  • You begin to understand the depth of growth that can take place in any aspect of life.
  • You have fun and feel ever more curious about what else their is to learn and absorb in your field of choice.

Meditation and Mysticism are no different… certainly they can be practiced haphazardly, with occasional introspection and deep breathing… but these practices are best when you make them paths to lovingly walk for the rest of your life

When you choose to set out on your own mystic path (your own inner voyage), you will do it for your own reasons… it is important to find and appreciate your own reasons… the ‘back to basics’ approach, however, has been said many times by many great teachers…

In Awaken the Giant Within, Tony Robbins talks about the concept of CANI, or Constant And Never-ending Improvement.

Musashi, in The Book of Five Rings, stated “You must research this well.”, “You must train constantly.”, “You must consider this deeply.” and “Study this well.” (this guy was big on training…)

Glenn Morris (Pathnotes of an American Ninja Master, Shadow Strategies of an American Ninja Master, and others), partially inspired by Musashi, said “Keep going, keep playing”

After quoting so many distinguished experts, the only thing I would like to add to this is:

keep smiling,

ben
