Meditation for Beginners: It Only Takes 1 Minute!

by Benjamin on July 29, 2010

“A hero is one who knows how to hang on one minute longer.”

-Novalis

Most meditation programs are not designed for beginners!

They assume that a person can just walk into an intense daily practice after reading a book or watching a video. For most people, it is not that easy, and this is why most meditation programs have an surprisingly high washout rate.

But what if you could step into a profound space of meditation in just 1 minute?

Is it possible to have a powerful meditation experience in only 60 seconds?

If you would like to listen to this post as a podcast…

You can significantly shift your consciousness in a single second, and 60 seconds is more than enough time to have a powerful experience.

Anytime someone becomes very frightened, their consciousness dramatically shifts in a split second.  When someone gets wonderful news, as soon as they comprehend it their consciousness dramatically shifts in a split second.

With a little practice, a dramatic shift toward a peaceful, meditative state can also happen in just a second.

Why do we need a one minute meditation?

This is truly a meditation for beginners. It only takes 1 minute… anyone with any desire to learn whatsoever can commit to 1 minute of practice.

In fact, you will find it highly beneficial to repeat the one minute meditation several times throughout the day if possible.

What will it do for me?

When you learn the 1 minute meditation and make it part of your daily routine, you create a habit of relaxation, mindfulness, and peacefulness that will instantly translate into greater health, vitality, and power throughout your life.

Creating this habit builds momentum, and makes it easier to create or eliminate other habits as well. You can use this as the first step in becoming one of the rare people who control their habits (rather than being controlled by their habits).

In very short order, you will begin to find that relaxation becomes the background of your life.

If you do not practice the 1 minute meditation, or another simple but powerful practice designed for beginners, you will likely quit your meditation practice within a week or two.

Most practitioners don’t make it that far.

There is absolutely no reason not to give this truly powerful practice a try! All you need is a stopwatch, cellphone, or a watch with a second hand.

So how do we do it?

To begin to get a feel for the 1 minute meditation, practice this right now:

    1. Close or de-focus your eyes.
    2. State to yourself (internally or out loud) “Every time I practice, I can relax deeper and go into a more profound state of meditation.”
    3. Breathe deeply and focus on allowing everything to happen as slowly as possible. If something seems to be happening quickly, you can simply begin to perceive it more slowly.
    4. Allow your breathing and everything else to move slower and slower for the rest of the 60 seconds.
    5. Once you are finished, notice just how much more relaxed you feel, and remind yourself once again that you can go even further the next time you practice.

Practice frequently, and the one minute meditation will grow more intense. It will be easier to practice longer, and you will go into a deeper space more quickly.

It’s amazing what you can do in 1 minute…

    keep smiling,

    Benjamin
