“The higher your baseline Concentration, Clarity, and Equanimity, the broader and deeper your happiness…. that’s pretty much the E=MC2 of human happiness.”
-Shinzen Young

This is an interview I’m very excited about!
Shinzen Young is a very skillful Vipassana (mindfulness meditation) teacher, who has been practicing meditation for about 40 years, now.
He has taken powerful Eastern concepts and not only made them more palatable to the Western mind… but also created simple and powerful methods of training that can make a meditative lifestyle a reality for anyone who is willing to take up the practice.
And recently, he agreed to do an interview…
Some of the powerful concepts covered in this recording:
- 3 crucial principles for human happiness
- How to enjoy the sublime benefits of a retreat in your own home
- 2 common pitfalls for meditation beginners and how to avoid them
- How to separate powerful spiritual wisdom from hype and B.S.
- How Shinzen got started
- The odd manner in which I found my way to Shinzen’s teachings
- and quite a bit more…

This is where you can sign up for retreats guided by phone. I signed up for the March retreat (just the beginner’s portion). The March retreat is open for registration until the 10th.
Shinzen.org
Shinzen.org is my personal favorite. A ridiculous amount of free audio and written information (including the pdf image of circuminsession, which I mentioned in the interview).

Will definitely digg into this. Sounds really interesting. I am actually curious about what meditation is all about and what one can benefit from it. I guess I will have a good start here.
Absolutely Andrew…
Shinzen Young is the best instructor I have found for the serious student of meditation… he makes it incredibly simple.
What are the benefits of meditation? I will probably have to do another post on this… but to keep it simple, meditation is likely the absolute best tool for developing Peace, Power, and Happiness!
Give the interview a listen, and if you feel hungry for more, check out the YouTube channels!

Ben
Meditation is really good stuff. When i was going through some really ruff times I would take about 15 minutes a day to meditate and it really helps.

Thank you, Debbie!
Meditation is a very powerful way to stay emotionally balanced.
I notice that I rarely have a ‘bad day’ when I begin with meditation.
‘Bad things’ may still happen… but I just don’t seem to perceive them that way… I deal with them and continue to move about my day.
As you say… it’s good stuff!

This is just what I need, thank you! Years ago I used to practice yoga and meditation every day. I guess my life was much simpler back then. I aspire to that simpler lifestyle again now that my life has become way to busy and cluttered. I’ve started yoga again with a local instructor, and now I’ve attracted this wonderful interview to help kick start me back into meditating!
Thank you so much,

Thanks for your comment, Donna…
Small steps taken lovingly will gradually move you to where you want to be.
Just beyond the activity and clutter… is stillness and clarity!

Thanks Ben, I like how you put that, Just beyond the activity and clutter… is stillness and clarity!
And that stillness and clarity is the antidote to the stress and overwhelm that so many people now have in their lives. I’m so looking forward to it… it will be like a vacation!

thanks for the information.
I am actually trying to get a hold of Shinzen, it seems impossible to find him, any idea how some one can track him down?
thanks
Sean
Hope you enjoy it, Sean!
As far as getting in touch with Shinzen…
Ask him for an interview, that’s what I did…
A bit more seriously, if you go to BasicMindfulness.org, you should be able to find contact information.
I did a phone based retreat this weekend, and one of the benefits of that is personal access to Shinzen (in my case, his guidance was good enough that I didn’t need it).
The next retreat doesn’t happen until June, but if you haven’t been able to contact him until then, it’s a great experience, and it only costs $20.

Hey Ben just wanted to say thanks for the Shinzen Young interview.
I have started reading and practicing basic mindfulness as per Shinzen
and even did a phone treat.I have been practicing for about six months
now and have noticed more emotional balance in my life. THanks for brining Shinzen to my attention.
It is a blessing to be of assistance, Drew!
Shinzen has been amazing for me, and I hope he continues to help build deeper and deeper emotional balance!

Benjamin
