How To Blend RSS, Mysticism, & Wisdom…

by Benjamin on August 6, 2009

“Repetition is the Mother of Skill!”

-Unknown

I’m not certain where this quote originates, but my own life has certainly proved it to be true.

The more times you come back… the more times you play with the skill… the more times you investigate it a little bit deeper… the better you get!  You might even find yourself shocked at just how quickly your skill can grow.

There are tons of ways to keep reminding yourself to come back to your practice.

One method I have been using quite a bit in the last couple of years is RSS.

Now some will know all about RSS.

Some have probably at least heard of it.

And some probably don’t have a clue what RSS is.

So just what is RSS, and what does it have to do with mysticism, meditation, and PeacefulProsperity.com?

But What Does It All Mean?

RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication… it is also sometimes referred to as a ‘feed’.  It is a way for websites (particularly blogs) to easily syndicate their updates, and it is also a way for readers of sites like this to easily access and keep up with those updates.

Every time the website updates, you get notified.  This means frequent reminders.

In the case of Peaceful Prosperity, it is an easy, automated reminder to

Stay consistent with your practice of Cultivating Consciousness for Peace, Power, and Happiness!

The easiest way you can do this is through your email, if you have Outlook 2007 or another e-mail program that supports RSS.  If you subscribe to several feeds (or if you just like playing around with different web trends), you can get on an RSS reader.  RSS readers bring all the feeds to which you’re subscribed together in one place.  Some examples are My Yahoo (which is the site I use for all the feeds I’m subscribed to), Google, or bloglines.  There are plenty of different RSS readers out there, and if you would like to see a lot more, you can simply do a google search for RSS readers.  It will take just a bit of practice and play to get used to RSS and your new reader, but it is well worth it.

If you have a gmail or yahoo email address, then I suggest you use the corresponding reader (google reader or my yahoo).

This is what the feeds I’m subscribed to look like in My Yahoo:

I know this isn’t the best picture, but the feeds are the long boxes on the right.  Each box contains the last several updates along with how long ago it was updated.

RSS can consist of articles, music, or video.

To subscribe to a blog, just look for that RSS symbol:

Subscribe Here!

Subscribe Here!

Once you click on this button, you will be taken to a screen which gives you the options for subscription:

Just click on the option that suits you, and from then on, you will be updated in your reader of all your favorite content.

Just what the heck does all this have to do with personal growth?

The RSS is another way to build constructive learning habits.  The Wisdom and the Mysticism come when you return again and again to this moment of self study.

Just seeing new content here can remind you to just

Stop… and pay a little bit more attention!

Now all you have to do is check your reader (and if you have Yahoo or Google for your email, it’s really easy to check your email and then your reader while you’re still logged in), and you will be updated on a variety of information.  When you constantly immerse yourself in learning material, you grow more and more quickly…

So let’s all get our reminders so we can grow more and more quickly!

keep smiling,

Ben
