Mystic Secrets of Super Learning - finding support
By Ben | July 16, 2008
If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!
Anytime you embark upon a new path of learning, it is important to surround yourself with support. You will have to be your own best fan. You will have to consolidate the new world you are creating inside your mind before you condense it into reality. It is also useful to begin to surround yourself with people and conditions that will help you create the world you desire around yourself…
Here are a few tips:
- Create what you want vividly inside your mind… and review it frequently
- Be willing to ignore the criticisms of well meaning friends and family members
- At the same time, be open to feedback (learn to notice the difference between feedback and criticism)
- Check out Yahoo groups, Google groups, MySpace, facebook, etc. to find like-minded people in your area
- If it is available, seek competent instruction
- Find things that remind you of what you want, and introduce them into your environment… this can be pictures on your wall, the desktop on your computer, or anything else you like.
The more you
Create an environment for your success…
the easier and easier success will become for you.
If you want something relatively standard like learning a martial art or a musical instrument, this will be relatively easy. Instruction is widely available and is mostly encouraged.
If you want to become a millionaire or deeply study yourself through meditation, you will typically have a more difficult road ahead of you. Support and instruction is still available, but not as common. This type of change typically receives much less encouragement from friends and family.
Regardless of what type of behavior you wish to learn, you will have to make certain your internal and external environment supports it. When you create internal and external momentum, your world will reflect the changes back to you more and more!

Western Zen…
By Ben | July 15, 2008
How many people does it take to help you find you?
In any new learning, the assistance of a skilled trainer can be invaluable…
But a hand can only point at the Moon, directing you on your path… it can’t carry you there… you have to take the journey yourself…
In the West, we have borrowed many Eastern practices, but we tend to be much more informal.
We can let go of the need for traditions… we can let go of the need for masters…
Can you transcend that which you perceive as outside yourself?
Can you transcend that which you perceive inside yourself?

Review of “Break Through Pain”
By Ben | July 14, 2008
This has replaced “The Science of Enlightenment” as my favorite product from Shinzen Young.
This gives a vast amount of information on how to deal with pain as well as insight meditation.
For years, I refused to do meditation in certain positions. If the posture hurt my knees, I wouldn’t do it. If there was too much discomfort in my back, I wouldn’t do it. Now I realize that these can just be more effective objects of meditation. The most effective object of meditation isn’t the one you choose, it is the one you are presented with.
Now I’m not saying that you have to put yourself in pain in order to meditate… in fact, you want to listen to your body to determine what is just discomfort, and what could actually damage you.
Studying this book and the accompanying CD will help you learn to
transcend suffering,
and therefore your understanding of pain. Most of what we refer to as pain is actually suffering.
As an example, when I used to do sitting meditation, I would get pain in my knees. I would then think something along the lines of “Oh shit, I don’t want to permanently mess up my knees!” Then I would visualize the damage to the knee, and sometimes I would play a movie inside my mind of me trying to move through the world with a serious knee injury.
Since I have studied this book and practiced the meditations on the CD, I have come to realize that the pain in my knees was actually very minor. My subjective sense of suffering was great because I lost track of what I was experiencing. When our experience is outside of our conscious awareness, it has a seemingly much more dramatic effect! Most of the emotional challenges that we face in life are easily handled with these techniques! Now that I am paying closer attention to what is happening, I am now aware that the pain in my knees is actually just discomfort. If any troubling visualizations or internal sounds come up while I practice, I can focus specifically on the nature of these sounds and pictures, or I can just let them pass and continue to pour my awareness into the focus of my meditation.
You can bring these skills into any aspect of your life!
There is also an amazing meditation in this book/CD called “Breath Pleasure”. This has become one of my favorite mental exercises. It takes just a little bit of practice to get it down, and then it is an easy resource for good feelings at any point in your life! Do you ever stop breathing? As you play with this meditation more and more, you will be able to enter deeper and deeper states of pleasure, just by paying attention to your breath!
Shinzen Young is an excellent author and speaker. He explains the concepts simply and precisely. If you are looking to develop laser-like focus and the ability to allow your day-to-day experience to become a blissful flow of awareness, then this book is a must read!
If you get it right now, it’s less than $20 from Amazon (with shipping)! Check out the Amazon box on the lower left hand side of this page.
I have been studying many schools of meditation for over 15 years. “Break Through Pain” is one of the simplest, fastest, most effective presentations of ‘how to meditate’ that I have ever seen. Take a look!

A Basic Technique for Opening Radiant Circuits…
By Ben | July 13, 2008
Your Radiant Circuits (also known as the Strange Flows) are a source of both health and joy in your life. Ensuring that your radiant circuits are open and flowing properly will allow the energy to travel where it needs to in your body to fight off any health issues that may arise. In addition, the more strongly these circuits flow, the more pleasurable your subjective experience of life will be as well.
I will be giving an overview of the radiant circuits in my upcoming presentation (see the Events page).
For now, though, I thought I would give you a quick technique for opening up these energetic pathways.
- Close your eyes
- Take a deep breath
- Recall a time when you were absolutely ecstatic (the feelings of falling in love, spectacular success, or deep connection with a friend are some examples)
- Bring back the memory as completely as possible. See what you saw, hear what you heard, and feel what you felt in vivid detail
- Once you get the pleasurable feelings flowing, focus on them and allow them to intensify (some ways of doing this are making the images bigger and brighter, imagining a control knob for the feelings and turning it up, or give yourself the command “I now experience these feelings twice (or 3 or 4 times) as intense as I felt them before!”)
- Now that the feelings are turned up, enjoy them!
- To hold on to these feelings longer, hold your hands in front of your pubic bone and trace them up your body to your lower lip, and affirm “This is my natural state of being, everyday, in every way, I’m feeling better, better, and better!”
If you do this exercise, you will activate your radiant circuits. The more you practice, the faster and more profound your results will be!
Another meditation that has a similar effect is listed on the meditations page (the secret of the inner smile).
When you begin to feel better and better, not only will your mental and physical health drastically improve, but you will become more and more of a joy to all those around you!

When you discover the deeper nature of your path…
Most of the answers you receive, will not be expressed in words…
You will have feelings.
You will remember impressions.
You may see images… or you may imagine seeing!
And you might even experience sounds…
If, however, there were a description of the core the path that can be put into words, it would be
Do the drills, get the skills!
Learn this, and you will find everything else becoming easier and easier!
We usually know what we have to do… but are you willing to do it?

S.M.A.R.T. Goals - Time Sensitive
By Ben | July 10, 2008
Now that your goal is Specific, Measurable, stated “As if now”, and Realistic, we just need to associate it with a date to ensure timely progress.
You want to make sure your goal is timed or time-sensitive. Otherwise, there is no way to be certain of your progress. If you want to have $1 million someday… you will never actually have to achieve the goal. If you want to have $1 million by 2 years from today, then you will be able to tell at that point whether or not you have achieved it, if you have overshot it, or how close you came.
This also has a more motivating effect, or as Drill Sergeants would say: It helps you
Light a fire under your ass!
If you have a definite date by which you want to achieve the goal, then you should get a feeling of “I’d better get moving” or “I’m gonna make this happen!” If you don’t feel motivated to get it done, consider how much you actually want this goal, and also consider moving up your timeline.
This goes hand in hand with creating realistic goals. What is completely unrealistic given a year might be a walk in the park given 5 years. It is best to consider the realistic and timed aspects of your goal simultaneously. You can even use this to create a timeline of goals and subgoals.
In addition to having a time associated with your goal, it is important to make sure your goal is moving you toward what you want.
There are a few general fashions that people move about the world.
- Some move towards what they want.
- Some move away from what they don’t want.
- Most people do a mixture of the two
Much of what I’ve seen about the Law of Attraction demonizes the concept of moving away from what you don’t want. It is true that this isn’t where you want to direct the majority of your focus. However, we usually need to experience some of what we don’t want in order to realize what we really do want.
Allow me to re-iterate:
there is nothing wrong with being aware of what you don’t want!
You don’t want to spend an extended amount of time focusing on it, but you have to be aware of it to find what you do want. Once you clarify what you do want, spend the majority of your goal setting/goal reviewing time focusing on or elaborating on what it is that you want.
As an example, when you find yourself saying/thinking “Damn, this sucks!” or “I really don’t like it when this happens…”, it’s a good thing! Now you have the opportunity to recognize what you would like to have instead.
When bad things happen at your job, in your relationships, or elsewhere in your life, allow this to redirect your attention to the way you would like for it to be. You can now put your new outcome through the entire S.M.A.R.T. formula to clarify it and then establish an action plan.
When you feel a little ‘off your game’, or if you fell short of what you wanted, recognize it… accept it! Relax! Now you can begin to focus on what you want to happen in the future!
At this point, you should have a very clearly defined, motivating, time-sensitive goal. It should be focused toward what you want to achieve. When you think about your goal in these terms, you should feel clear and confident!
In my next post in this series, I will cover a few additional aspects of goal setting that will further allow you to create your outcomes more and more easily.
keep smiling,
ben

Fast Meditation Results - Entrainment…
By Ben | July 9, 2008
The concept of scientific methods of mysticism has become a more and more interesting proposition for people.
One of the fastest ways to achieve deeper or expanded states of consciousness is through brainwave entrainment. Brainwave entrainment makes it easier for your mind to find the desired state, and the more you practice being in the desired state, the easier it is for you to get back there, with or without the brainwave tracks.
Brainwave entrainment programs are all over the place now. One of my favorites is the Silva Ultramind Remote Viewing Course, but this is just one example. This course uses a light tapping sound to help you enter the desired state, while the trainer leads you through a mental exercise.
Many brainwave programs now use a system called binaural beats. With binaural beats, one frequency is played into your left ear (say 190 cycles per second), and a second frequency is played into your right ear (say 200 cycles per second). When this happens, your brain automatically creates the ‘phantom’ frequency in an attempt to balance… the ‘phantom’ frequency is just the difference between the other two frequencies (10 cycles per second in this case).
Our normal day-to-day level of consciousness is referred to as Beta, and takes place at 15 cycles per second and up. This level of mind is often referred to as ‘monkey mind’ by meditators, as there is typically little control or directing of thoughts occurring at this level. Typically the mind is just running from one thought or subject to the next.
The next level down is Alpha. Alpha is associated with alert relaxation. The Alpha range is 8-14 cycles per second. Most people only encounter a strong Alpha state as they are going to sleep, waking up, or occasionally while daydreaming. Many long term meditators begin to spend most of their time in the Alpha range, even when they are moving about their day and doing things that most people would do in the Beta range.
Further down is Theta. Theta is the level where most psychic skills occur: remote viewing, remote influencing, distant healing etc. The Theta range is 4-7 cps. Theta is also associated with dreaming during sleep, and this is the only time most people experience it.
Frequently considered the bottom of the spectrum, Delta is usually associated with deep, dreamless sleep, rejuvenation of the body, and the deepest mystical experience… the disappearance of the ego. The Delta range is from 0.5-3.5 cps.
To summarize:
- Beta - monkey mind - 15 cps +
- Alpha - alert relaxation - 8-14 cps
- Theta - psychic skills - 4-7 cps
- Delta - enter the void - 0.5-3.5 cps
Using brainwave tracks to entrain to any of these deeper levels of mind creates a reference point for that level of brain activity. When you attain a deeper level of mind, or a broader perspective, or have a moment of satori, you can always get back to these states, and it grows easier and easier the more frequently you return to them (consistency and intensity). Once you have been there, you have a reference point. To use travel as a metaphor, I have reference points for L.A. and Kuwait City, but not London or Seattle… until you go to that place (mental or physical), you have no reference point for it. As you continue to practice your meditation, and bring it into your day-to-day life, you will gain reference points for more and more profound states. The easiest way to develop some very deep reference points very quickly it to use brainwave entrainment.
Establishing reference points for deep levels of mind while maintaining consciousness is a powerful doorway into mystical experience.
There are a variety of brainwave entrainment programs out there.
If you are interested in “Silva Ultramind’s Remote Viewing and Remote Influencing”, then click here!
I also like “The Brainwave Suite” by Dr. Jeffrey Thompson, and any of the products by Kelly Howell. If you are interested in either of these, I have both listed in the Amazon box on the left sidebar. Take a look!
Once you begin to practice brainwave entrainment, you will be shocked at how fast you start to get incredible results!

The One Minute Meditation!
By Ben | July 8, 2008
Many of us just don’t have the time for hours of meditation.
There’s work, spouse, kids, bills, etc.
We can’t just toss all that out the window to sit at the feet of some obscure Guru on a faraway mountain.
Most of us have a hard time freeing up just an hour a day.
So what can we do?
How can we still reap the benefits of meditation without sacrificing everything else in our life?
The answer is
Gradually introduce yourself to Meditation!
Gently bring this practice into your life. Once you start to get a feel for it, you can gradually deepen and broaden your practice.
Children don’t just start running one day. First they learn to crawl, then they learn to stand, then they learn cruising (walking along couches or other objects for balance), then they begin walking without support, and shortly thereafter, they begin running. It is also useful to note that they do all of this without self judgment! (no wonder they learn so quickly)
How can we do this with meditation?
The easiest way to gradually introduce meditation in your life is to use The One Minute Meditation!
- Find a quiet space. If you’re at work, excuse yourself to the restroom or some other quiet spot. If you are at home, make sure there will be no children, spouse, or pet interruptions… this shouldn’t be too difficult for just one minute
- Sit upright. Keep your spine relatively straight. If you like, you can imagine a string pulling up on the crown of your head, lengthening and straightening your spine
- Choose your object of focus for this meditation. Pick a single focus when you meditate. Some body sensation is usually easiest for beginning meditators, but you can choose anything you like. Some possibilities are the sensations in the belly during the breath, the sensations in the nose during the breath, the feelings in your feet, etc.
- Take a deep breath and allow yourself to relax. Let some relaxation flow through your body, then begin your one minute of focus. Some means of timing yourself will be very helpful (an unobtrusive alarm is nice). For the duration of the minute, hold your attention on the focus of the meditation. If anything else enters your mind, gently bring your awareness back to your focus
- After 60 seconds, you’re done!
Once you have a little practice with this, you will notice your ability to concentrate improving. If you like, you can begin to extend the meditation. You can also increase the number of meditations you perform during the day. If you are really bold, you can increase both. The Silva Method encourages students to work their way up to meditating 3 times a day for 15 minutes. Some students take it even further than this.
There is no need to worry about that, though. For now, just start with the One Minute Meditation…

Zen Comprehension…
By Ben | July 7, 2008
What’s it like when a person begins to overcome the notions of “now” and “then”?
Some say it’s like you can grow past the need to analyze…
Can you Take a deep breath and simply allow confusion to be?
Will you move your understanding beyond time and space?
How do you move your understanding beyond time and space?
Let go of the need to understand…
You don’t need it, and it will always be there when you decide to come back for it… often much more refined than before!
keep smiling,
ben
